Using the rules for differentiation, we get:

dy/dx = - (x-3)x2 / (x+1)5

y = x3/(x+1)4

log y = 3 logx - 4 log(x+1)

Differentiating w.r.to x

1/y (dy/dx) = 3/x - 4/(x+1)  = (-x+3)/[x(x+1)]

(dy/dx) = (-x+3)/[x(x+1)] { x3/(x+1)4}  = { (-x+3)x2 }/{ (x+1)5 }
