Arrange the following in the ascending order of wavelength (\(\lambda\)) :

(A) Microwaves \(\left(\lambda_{1}\right)\)

(B) Ultraviolet rays \((\lambda _2)\)

(C) Infrared rays \(\left(\lambda_{3}\right)\)

(D) X-rays \(\left(\lambda_{4}\right)\)

Choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below :

(1) \(\lambda_{4}<\lambda_{3}<\lambda_{2}<\lambda_{1}\)

(2) \(\lambda_{3}<\lambda_{4}<\lambda_{2}<\lambda_{1}\)

(3) \(\lambda_{4}<\lambda_{2}<\lambda_{3}<\lambda_{1}\)

(4) \(\lambda_{4}<\lambda_{3}<\lambda_{1}<\lambda_{2}\)

Best answer

Correct option is : (3) \(\lambda_{4}<\lambda_{2}<\lambda_{3}<\lambda_{1}\)

X-ray \((\lambda _4)\) is shortest wavelength

then ultraviolet is \((\lambda_2)\) is longer than X-ray.

then infrared \((\lambda _3)\) is longer than ultraviolet

then microwaves \((\lambda _1)\) is longer than infrared

So \(\lambda_{4}<\lambda_{2}<\lambda_{3}<\lambda_{1}\)
