(i) Carbylamine reaction can distinguish between Dimethyl amine and Ethanamine. Ethanamine reacts with CHCl₃ and ethanolic KOH to form isocyanides which is foul smelling substance.

\(CH_3CH_2 - NH_2+ CHCl_3 + 3KOH \xrightarrow {Heat}CH_3CH_2NC + 3KCl + 3H_2O\)

Dimethyl amine is secondary amine and do not show this reaction

(ii) Iodobenzene is formed along with KCl and N₂.
