Considering Fig. 1.21, let us take d1 = 20 mm, d2 = 14 mm, d3 = 10 mm, L1 = 100 mm, L2 = 140 mm, L3 = 150 mm. Forces are P1 = 30 kN, P2 = 16kN, P3 = 20 kN, P4 = 34 kN. If E = 100 kN/ mm2, determine the change in length in each portion and the overall change in length.

P1 + P3 = 50 kN 

P2 = 16kN 

P2 + P4 = 50kN
