Best answer

The given organic compound is mixed with dry cupric oxide. The mixture is taken in a hard glass test tube and heated. The C and H are oxidized to CO2 and H2O respectively. The CO2 turns lime water milky and H2O vapours turns white anhydrous CUSO4 into blue coloured hydrated CUSO4.

C + 2CuO → CO2 + 2Cu

2H + CuO→ H2O + Cu

CO2+ Ca(OH)2→ CaCO3 + H2O

CuSO4 + 5H2O → CuSO4 .5H2O
