The removal of CO2 from molecules having –COOH group by using sodalime is called decarboxylation. sodalime is a mixture of sodium hydroxide & calcium oxide.

Ex: Methane is formed when sodium acetate is heated strongly in the presence of sodalime.

CH3COONa + NaOH → CH4 + Na2CO3
