Two students, working in the same laboratory, do the experiment on finding the velocity of sound using the ‘resonance tube column apparatus’. They used tubes of diameters D1 and D2 and identical tuning forks of frequency N each. The first and second resonance lengths, found by them, were (l1,l1') and (l2, l2') respectively. Correct option: (3) 

Explanation: 

We know that

λ/4 =  first resonance length + end correction

and 3λ/4 =  second resonance length + end correction 

Also end correction = 0.3 (Diameter of the tube). As the students are working in the same laboratory (hence same value of velocity of sound) and are using tuning forks of same frequency, the value of λ must be the same in both cases (λ = V/N). We, therefore, have
