The rubber cord of catapult has a crosssectional area 1 mm2 and total unstretched length 10.0 cm. It is stretched to 12.0 cm and then released to project a missile of mass 5.0 g. Taking Young’s modulus Y for rubber as 5.0 × 108Nm–2, total elastic energy of catapult is converted into kinetic energy of missile without any heat loss. Calculate the velocity of projection (in m s–1).
