There are five kinds of radioactive decays.
When radioactivity was discovered, only three kinds of radioactive decays alpha(α), beta (β) and gamma)(γ) were known. Which were eventually identified as 42He nucleus, electron and high energy photon respectively. Later two more kinds of radioactive decays namely positron emission and electron capture were added.
