What is essentially the difference between α-form of glucose and β -form of glucose? Explain.

In α -D Glucose, the —OH group at C₁ is toward right whereas in b-glucose, the -OH group at C₁ is towards left. Such a pair of stereo-isomers which differ in the configuration only around C₁ are called anomers.
