Schottky defect in a crystal is observed when,
(1) Equal number of cations and anions are missing from the lattice
(2) No ion is missing from its lattice site
(3) Unequal number of cations and anions are missing from the lattice
(4) An ion leaves its normal site and occupies an interstitial site
