Two identical dielectric slabs, A and B, are placed symmetrically between the plates X and Y of a charged parallel-plate capacitor. The electric intensity has magnitudes E1, E2 and E3 at the points 1, 2 and 3.

(a) E1 > E2 > E3

(b) E1 = E3 < E2

Correct Answer is: (d) E1 = E2 = E3

Applying Gauss’s theorem to the points 1, 2, 3 gives the result E1 = E2 = E3
