Just as precise measurements are necessary is science, it is equally important to be able to make rough estimates of quantities using rudimentary ideas and common observations. Think of ways by which you can estimate the following (where an estimate is difficult to obtain, try to get upper bound on the quantity):

(a) The total mass of rain- bearing clouds over India during the monsoon.

(b) The wind speed during a storm.

(a) Firstly, to calculate the total rain in India, we can get an estimate of it and then knowing the weight of water we can estimate the weight of clouds.

(b) The pressure generated by the wind can give us the estimation of its speed.
