Due to the very small area of the cutting edge of a sharp knife, even a small force will create a very high pressure. This high pressure will help us to cut an apple or any other object easily. In case of blunt knife, area of the cutting edge is large and therefore large force has to be applied to create a pressure required to cut an apple.
