Two poisonous gases which can be prepared from Cl₂ are :
(i) Mustard gas
(ii) Phosgene
These are prepared as follows :
(i) Cl₂ is passed through boiling S, when S₂Cl₂ is formed. This on reaction with ethylene gives mustard gas which was used in second world war.
