Drona tested the state of mind of Yudhishthira and Duryodhana on the basis of concept “As is the mind, so is the vision.” Acharya asked Yudhishthira to bring a bad man from the society of Hasthinapura and asked Duryodhana to bring a good man from the same society. Yudhishthira could not find out even a single bad man because he was himself pure. His mind was pure and whoever he saw, seemed pure to him. Likewise, Duryodhana too could not find out even a single good man from society. It was because he was impure and he saw impurity in everyone. In this way, Drona tested the state of mind of Yudhishthira and Duryodhana. He came to know that Yudhisthira was pure at heart and Duryodhana had an impure heart.
“जैसा मन वैसी दृष्टि (विचार)’ अवधारणा के आधार पर द्रोण ने युधिष्ठिर और दुर्योधन के मन की अवस्था की परीक्षा की। आचार्य ने युधिष्ठिर से हस्तिनापुर के समाज में से एक बुरा व्यक्ति लाने के लिए कहा और दुर्योधन से उसी समाज में से एक अच्छा आदमी खोज कर लाने के लिए कहा। युधिष्ठिर एक भी बुरा आदमी खोजकर नहीं ला सका क्योंकि वह स्वयं पवित्र था। उसका मन पवित्र था और उसने जिस किसी को भी देखा वह उसे पवित्र ही प्रतीत हुआ। इसी प्रकार दुर्योधन भी एक भी अच्छी आदमी उसी समाज में से न खोज सका। ऐसा इसलिए हुआ क्योंकि वह अपवित्र था और उसे प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के अन्दर अपवित्रता दिखाई देती थी। इस प्रकार द्रोण ने युधिष्ठिर और दुर्योधन के मन की अवस्था की परीक्षा की। उन्हें पता चल गया कि युधिष्ठिर का हृदय पवित्र था और दुर्योधन का हृदय अपवित्र था।
