Characteristics of food – gathering and hunting are:
1. Man has been engaged in activities of food gathering and hunting since primitive age in regions of extreme climatic conditions.
2. These two economic activities are primary and are conducted at various levels and in various forms in the world.
3. The most important necessities of man such as food, clothing, shelter, etc. are fulfililed by these two activities.
4. These occupations need very less capital and technical knowledge but excessive labour.
5. The productivity per person is very less.
Main Regions of Food Gathering and Hunting: High latitudinal regions – Northern Canada, Norhern Euresia and Southern Chile and lower latitudinal regions – Amazon basin, Congo basin, internal parts of Southeastern Asia and New Guinea.
