Due to following reasons, these rights are called fundamental rights : 

1. These are called fundamental right because these rights are protected by the law or mentioned in the constitution of Indian. And no changes can be made in them except constitutional amendment process. 

2. In general, the fundamental rights cannot be violated. The state cannot interfere in them. 

3. Fundamental rights are justiceable. These are provided to all the citizens equally. All public officials are bound to follow them. 

4. These are essential to the overall development of an individual so every individual has been given fundamental rights.
