In ∆ABC

AD, bisect vertex angle A

∴ ∠BAD = ∠CAD

∴ AB/AC = BD/DC

⇒ 8/AC = 5/4

⇒ 5 AC = 8 × 4

⇒ AC = 32/5

⇒ AC = 6.4 cm
