Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award: This award was started in 1991-92 by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. It is India’s highest honour given for achievement in sports. It carries a cash prize of ? 750,000 (exempted from income tax and wealth tax), a scroll of honour and one plaque besides a blazer, a tie. This award is given every year by the President of India, to outstanding sports individual or a team, across all sporting disciplines in a given year.
