If sin x + sin2x = 1, show that cos2x + cos4x = 1.

sin x + sin2x = 1 

⇒ sin x = 1 – sin2

⇒ sin x = cos2

Squaring both the sides, we get

 sin2x = cos4

⇒ 1 – cos2x = cos4

⇒ 1 = cos2x + cos4

Hence proved.
