Merits of multi-party system are as follows :
It gives representation to various opinions and interests. It is in accordance with the principles of democracy as voters get ample choice to select their representatives.There is no chance of cabinet dictatorship.
Demerits of multi-party system are as follows:
• It is chaotic due to presence of several parties. Government formed may or may not achieve majority because of the presence of multiple optional which results in weaker government.
• It is considered to be a source of political instability.
