We take, m = 1 amu = 1.66 x 10-27 kg 

c = 3 x 108 ms-1 

Then, E = mc2 = 1.66 x 1027 x (3 x 108)2 J

E ≈ 981 MeV 

∴ 1 amu = 931 MeV.
