By passing chlorine into dry slaked lime (Ca(OH)₂)

Ca(OH)₂+Cl₂ → CaOCl₂.

Two uses :

(i) Used for bleaching cotton and linen in the textile industry and wood pulp in paper industry etc.

(ii) It is used for disinfecting drinking water.
