Assertion (A) : The de - Broglie wavelength of a neutron when its kinetic energy is K is λ. Its wavelength is 2λ when its kinetic energy is 4K

Reason (R) : The de- Broglie wavelength λ is proportional to square root of the kinetic energy.

(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A

(b) Both A and R are true but R is NOT the correct explanation of A

Best answer

Option : (D)

We have,

λ = \(\frac{h}{\sqrt{2mE}}\)

i.e., λ ∝ \(\frac{1}{\sqrt E}\)

Hence,

Assertion is wrong and Reason is also wrong.
