The depth of a cuboid pond with length of 20 m and breadth of 18.5 m is 3.2 m, determine the time required to irrigate whole water of the pond with a pump having the capacity to irriagate 160 kilolitres water per hour. If that quantity of water is poured on a paddy field with a ridge having the length of 59.2 m and breath of 40 m, then what is the depht of water in that land ? [Let 1 cubic metre=1 kilolitre]

Best answer
1 kilolitre= 1 cubic merte
`therefore` 160 ,, = 160 ,, ,,
The length of the pond = 20 metres, breath = 18.5 metres and depth of water in the pond =3.2 metres.
`therefore` the volume of water `=(20 xx 18.5 xx 3.2)` cu meters = 1184 cu - metres
The pump irrigate 160 cu-meters in 60 minuts
`therefore` ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, 1 ,, ,, ,, ,, `60/160` ,,
,, ,, ,, ,, ,, 1184 ,, ,, ,, `(60 xx 1184)/(160),, = 44 ` minutes =7 hours 24 minutess
Again, let the depth of water after pouring water in the paddy field be x metre.
Then, the volume of water in the field `59.2 xx 40 xx x ` cubic-metre.
As per question . `59.2 xx 40 xx x = 1184 `
or, `x=(1184)/(59.2 xx 40)=0.5 `
Hence the required time to iITigate the water of the pond is 7 hours and 24 minutes and the depth of water in the paddy field after pouring the water of the pond in it will be 0.5 metre = 5 dcm
