` x ^(2) = 4y ` ... (1)
तथा ` x = 4 y - 2 ` ...(2)
वक्र (1 ) व (2 ) परस्पर A तथा B पर काटते है |

समीकरण (1 ) व (2 ) से,
` x = x ^(2) - 2 `
` rArr x ^(2 ) - x - 2 = 0 `
` rArr x ^( 2 ) - 2 x + x - 2 = 0 `
` rArr x ( x - 2 ) + ( x - 2 ) = 0 `
` therefore x = 2 ` या ` x = - 1 `
समीकरण (2 ) से,
यदि x = 2 तब y = 1,
यदि ` x = - 1 ` तब ` y = 1//4 `
अतः बिंदु A व B क्रमशः ` ( - 1, ( 1 )/(4) ) ` तथा ` (2,1) ` है |
A से AC तथा B से BD लम्ब डालिये |
चित्र से,
क्षेत्र CABD रेखा ` x = 4y - 2 ` तथा x - अक्ष से घिरा क्षेत्र है तथा क्षेत्र AOBDCA परवलय ` x ^(2 ) = 4 ay ` तथा x - अक्ष से घिरा क्षेत्र है | अतः छायांकित भाग का क्षेत्रफल
` = CABD ` का क्षेत्रफल - AOBDCA का क्षेत्रफल
` = int _ ( - 1 ) ^( 2 ) y _ 1 dx - int _ ( -1 ) ^( 2 ) y _ 2 dx `
जबकि ` y _1 = ( x + 2 ) /(4) ` [समी ० (2 ) से ]
तथा ` y _ 2 = ( x ^(2))/( 4 ) ` [समी ० (1 ) से ]
` = ( 1 ) /(4) int _ ( -1 ) ^( 2) ( x + 2 ) dx - ( 1 ) /(4) int _ ( -1 ) ^( 2) x ^(2) dx `
` = ( 1 ) /(4) [ ( x ^(2 ) ) / ( 2 ) + 2x ] _ ( -1 ) ^ ( 2 ) - ( 1 ) / ( 12 ) [ x ^( 3) ] _ ( -1 ) ^( 2 ) `
` = (1) /(4) [ 2 + 4 - ( 1 ) / ( 2 ) + 2 ] - ( 1 ) / ( 12 ) [8 + 1 ] `
