दिखाइए की रेखायें जिसकी दिक् कोज्यायें `al+bm+cn=0` तथा `u l^(2)+vm^(2)+wn^(2)=0` द्वारा प्रदर्शित है, परस्पर लंबवत है यदि `a^(2)(v+w)+b^(2)(u+w)+c^(2)(u+v)=0` तथा समान्तर है यदि `(a^(2))/(u)+(b^(2))/(v)+(c^(2))/(w)=0`

`u l^(2)+vm^(2)+wn^(2)=0" ".....(2)`
समीकरण (1) से l का मान रखने पर `l=(-(mb+cn))/(a)`
समीकरण (2) में l का मान रखने पर
`(u(bm+cn)^(2))/(a^(2))+vm^(2)+wn^(2)=0`
`rArr (b^(2)u+a^(2)v)m^(2)+2ubcmn+(c^(2)u+a^(2)w)n^(2)=0`
`rArr (b^(2)u+a^(2)v)((m)/(n))^(2)+2ubc((m)/(n))+(c^(2)u+a^(2)w)=0`
जो `((m)/(n))` में द्विघात समाकरण है, तब इसके दो मूल `((m_(1))/(n_(1)))` तथा `((m_(2))/(n_(2)))` होंगे।
इसलिए `(m_(1))/(n_(1))*(m_(2))/(n_(2))=(c^(2)u+a^(2)w)/(b^(2)u+a^(2)v)`
`rArr (m_(1)m_(2))/(c^(2)u+a^(2)w)=(n_(1)+n_(2))/(b^(2)u+a^(2)v)`
`rArr (m_(1)m_(2))/(c^(2)u+a^(2)w)=(n_(1)+n_(2))/(b^(2)u+a^(2)v)=(l_(1)l_(2))/(b^(2)w+c^(2)v)` (सममित गुण)
`rArr l_(1)l_(2)+m_(1)m_(2)+n_(1)+n_(2)`
`=lambda(b^(2)w+c^(2)v+c^(2)u+a^(2)w+b^(2)u+a^(2)v)`
दी गयी रेखायें परस्पर लंवबत है यदि
`l_(2)l_(2)+m_(1)m_(2)+n_(1)n_(2)=0`
`rArr a^(2)(v+w)+b^(2)(w+u)+c^(2)(u+v)=0`
तथा रेखायें समान्तर होंगी यदि मूल समान है तो
`4y^(2)b^(2)c^(2)-4(b^(2)u+a^(2)v)(c^(2)u+a^(2)w)=0`
`rArr (a^(2))/(u)+(b^(2))/(v)+(c^(2))/(w)=0`
