`underset("Peroxyacetic acid")underset()(CH_(3)-overset(O)overset(||)C-O-O-H)hArrunderset("Peroxyacetate ion")underset()(CH_(3)-overset(O)overset(||)C-O-O^(oplus)+H^(+))`
`underset("Acetic acid")underset()(CH_(3)-overset(O)overset(||)C-O-H)hArrunderset("Acetate ion")underset()(CH_(3)-overset(O)overset(||)C-O^(oplus)+H^(+))`
Acetate ion is more stable than peroxyacetate ion because of conjugation which is absent in the latter. This means that acetic acid is a stronger acid than peroxyacetic acid.
