Correct Answer - Option 2 : 20%

Calculation:

Given A person can buy 50 guavas or 40 oranges with the money he has;

Let the price of each guava be 'x' and orange be 'y';

From the given, 50x = 40y

⇒ y = 1.25x;

A person can buy 50 guavas with money he has

Total money he has = 50x;

Due to the pandemic, the price of each fruit is decreased by 20%

⇒ The new price of guava = 0.8x;

The new price of orange = 0.8 × 1.25x = x;

He purchased 20 guava and 24 oranges

Money spent = (20 × 0.8x) + (24 × x) = 40x;

The rest of the money = 50x - 40x = 10x;

Money saved for medical expenses = 10x;

Percentage of medical expenses = \(\dfrac {10x}{50x} \times 100 = 20 \; \%\)
