Total votes polled is 440

Calculation:

Let losing candidate gets x votes

Winning candidate gets = 120% of x = 1.2x

x + 1.2x = 440

⇒ 2.2x = 440

⇒ x = 440/2.2

⇒ x = 200

Winning candidate gets = 1.2 × 200 = 240 votes

∴ The winning candidates gets 240 votes
