About General Ved Prakash Malik:

  • General Ved Prakash Malik was born on 1st November 1939 in Dera Ismail Khan Northwest frontier Province(Now in Pakistan).
  • He was commissioned into The Indian Army as a Second Lieutenant on 7th June 1959 in Sikh Light Infantry. He was appointed General of the Indian Army on 30th September 1997 and served as an 18th Chief of Army Staff during the Kargil war(1999).
  • He involved two important operations of the Indian Army under his reign Operation Cactus(1988) and The Kargil War(1999).

About Chief of the Army Staff:

  • The Chief of Army Staff is a Four-Star Rank head of the Indian Army. It is the highest rank of commander of the Indian Army. The position is known as Chief of Army Staff(COAS) in the Indian Army.
  • The Chief of the Army Staff(COAS) is a Military adviser to the Ministry of Defence and the Government of India.
  • The Post of Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army was established in 1748 to designate the Commander of all the Armed forces of East India Company(Later free Independent India).
  • The Appointments of the Chief of Army Staff are made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The COAS is appointed for three years(3) in the office or at the age of 62, whichever is earlier.

  • The current Chief of Army Staff(COAS) of the Indian Army is Mr. Manoj Mukund Naravane(August 2020). He is the 27th serving Chief of Army Staff(COAS) of the Indian Army.
