Correct Answer - Option 3 : path functions

Concept:

  • Path functions: These depend on the path followed by the system. For e.g. Work and heat. The cyclic integral of path function is not zero.
  • Point function: These do not depend on the path followed. These only depend on the end states of the system. The cyclic integral of a point function is zero. For e.g Temperature, Pressure, etc.

Explanation:

  • Path functions like heat transfer and work done cannot be represented by points in the graph but they can be represented by area under the curve.
  • Heat Transfer will be the area under the curve in T-S diagram whereas work transfer will be the area under the curve in the P-V diagram.
