Correct Answer - Option 2 : Mapping is not part of mathematics curriculum.

Map is a representation of the earth on a flat surface. Maps are very much used by motorists, defence personnel, tourists and so on. But to use a map, it is necessary that one knows how to read the map as the map has its own language.

A map cannot be meaningful unless the reader is able to make out what the map contains. ‘Map literacy’ is essential for understanding maps.

  • Children need to be able to read maps because maps are very much a part of their curriculum.
  • They are expected to deal with maps of their district, state and country.
  • The abilities required for dealing with them are a bit different from those needed for reading and drawing pictures.
  • It may be surprising because maps are also 2D-representations.
  • Mapping strengthens spatial thinking.
  • Mapping promotes proportional reasoning.
  • Mapping can be integrated in many topics of Mathematics.

Hence, we conclude that mapping is not part of mathematics curriculum is not true about ‘mapping’ in mathematics.
