Correct Answer - Option 3 : Nectar mixed with saliva and stored in the honey sac

Concept-

  • Apiculture or Beekeeping is the production of honey and wax by care and management of honey bees.
  • In apiculture, bees are bred commercially in apiaries, where a lot of beehives can be placed.
  • Apiaries can be set up in areas where there are sufficient flowering plants available.
  • Working at Beehive
  1. Sterile diploid females as workers.
  2. Worker bees do all of the works from tending to, feeding young larvae, gathering water, pollen, and nectar, making wax comb, making honey, and guarding the hive.
  3. Fertile haploid males as drones.

Explanation-

  • Honeybees collect nectar from flowers.
  • This nectar is converted to honey in their hives.
  • Honey can be collected from these beehives.
  • Honeybees lay their eggs from October to December.
  • It is the best time to start bee-keeping.
  • Honeybees are attracted to the Lichi flowers.
  • In artificial culture, sugar is given to make the syrup(nectar) for honeybees.
  • Boxes are needed for keeping bees and storing honey produced by them.

Thereby honey is nectar mixed with saliva and stored in the honey sac.

  • Honey mainly contains fructose (approx 38%) and glucose (approx 32%) and other sugars include maltose, sucrose, and some carbohydrates.
  • Honey is also rich in flavonoids, due to which the thick liquid exhibits excellent anti-inflammatory properties and provides great health benefits.
  • Honey being a hyperosmotic agent removes fluid from the wound and also replenishes it quickly and harmful bacteria also die there.
  • When applied directly to the wound, it acts as a sealant and in this way, the wound is protected from infection.
