A uniform metre scale is kept in equilibrium when supported at the 60cm mark and a mass M is suspended from the 90cm mark. State with reason whether the weight of the scale is greater than, less than or equal to the weight of mass M.

Since the meter scale is uniform 

∴ Its mass per unit length is same and its wt. W acts at 50cm mark. 

∴ W × (60 – 50) = M(90 – 60)
