Correct Answer - Option 4 : 66%

Given:

A has 40 pens and some pencils.

He sells 60% of pencils and 70% of pens.

He has total 48 items remained with him.

Formula used:

x% of y = xy/100

Calculation:

Let number of pencils be M.

Total pens not sold by A = 40 × 30/100 = 12

Total pencils not sold by A = M × 40/100 = 2M/5

⇒ 48 = 12 + 2M/5

⇒ M = 90

Total pencils = 90

Total number of pencils sold by A = 90 × 60/100 = 54

Total number of pens sold by A = 40 × 70/100 = 28

Total items sold by A = 54 + 28 = 82

∴ Required percentage = 54/82 × 100 = 65.85%
