Correct Answer - Option 3 : (C), (D), (E) only

"Communication is the transfer of information from one person to another, whether or not it elicits confidence. But the information transferred must be understandable to the receiver" – G.G. Brown.

Communication is giving, receiving, or exchanging ideas, information, signals, or messages through appropriate media, enabling individuals or groups to persuade, to seek information, to give information, or to express emotions.

1. Communication Is A Life-Long Process

  • Communication is a life long learning process beginning at birth. We communicate in many different ways like listening, speaking, gesturing, reading, and writing. Communication abilities help children to learn, form social relationships, express feelings, and participate in everyday activities.
  • Even before a child is born, he or she communicates. A baby's kicking, rolling, hiccuping - all of these movements communicate something to the mother.
  • As soon as they are born, babies communicate feelings of displeasure by crying or by physically turning away from something they don't like.
  • Communication is a very important social need of a person which is nurtured by him as long as he lives.

2. Communication Is A Universal Process:

  • Communication is a fundamental, universal process that serves to connect senders and receivers of messages through space and time.
  • Something that is universal relates to everyone in the world or everyone in a particular group or society.
  • All creatures on the earth, from worms to humans, are communicating with each other for their better existence.

3. Communication Is A Collective Process:

  • Communication is essentially a collaboration of thoughts.
  • It is not defined by one factor, rather, it is a conglomerate of multiple factors.
  • “Communication is the intercourse by words, letters or messages”- Fred G. Meyer.
  • According to Claude Shannon, communication is 'one mind-affecting other'. Thus, it is a collaborative and collective process.

Thus, option 3 is the correct answer.

1. Filtering occurs when the message's recipient allows the message to pass through multiple individuals before reaching its final, intended party. Filtering often can alter the original message, limit its effectiveness or render it incomprehensible. It is a barrier to effective communication that should be avoided.

2. Communication is not a barrier-less process. Communication barriers are something that prevents us from correctly getting and accepting the messages others use to communicate their information, thoughts, and ideas. Some of the examples of communication barriers are information overload, choosy perceptions, workplace gossips, semantics, gender differences, etc. Barriers are undesirable but are not completely avoidable.
