Correct Answer - Option 2 : Projection

Stereotype:

  • A stereotype is a cluster of ideas regarding the characteristics of a specific group. All members belonging to this group are assumed to possess these characteristics.
  • Often, stereotypes consist of undesirable characteristics of the target group, and they lead to negative attitudes or prejudices towards members of specific groups.
  • These are category-based schemas that are overgeneralized, are not directly verified, and do not allow for exceptions.

Projection:

  • In projection, people attribute their own traits (thoughts and feelings) to others.
  • Thus, a person who has strong aggressive tendencies may see other people as acting in an excessively aggressive way towards her/him.

Halo Effect:

  • The halo effect is a well-documented social-psychology phenomenon that causes people to be biased in their judgments by transferring their feelings about one attribute of something to other, unrelated, attributes.
  • The halo effect is a type of cognitive bias in which our overall impression of a person influences how we feel and think about their character.
  • Essentially, your overall impression of a person ("He is nice!") impacts your evaluations of that person's specific traits ("He is also smart!").

Communication barrier

  • It is anything that prevents us from receiving and understanding the messages others use to convey their information, ideas, and thoughts. They can interfere with or block the message you are trying to send.

Hence, In communication, attributing our own thoughts and feelings to other is called projection.
