An ac circuit consists of a resistor of 5 0 and an inductor of 10 mH connected In series with a 50 V (peak)/50 Hz supply. What capacitance should be connected in series with the circuit to obtain maximum current? What will be the maximum current?

Data: R = 50 Ω, L = 10 mH = 10 × 10-3 H, e0 = 50 V, 

f = 50 Hz

(i) Maximum current is obtained at resonance. 

The condition for resonance is

(ii) At resonance, Z = R
