  • The Sanchi Cairn is located in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh state. In the year 1891, Alexander Cunningham and F.C Messi had excavated this place.
  • In the Ninth century, Sanchi was known as "Boat Shree Parvat". In 1989, this place was included in the list of Heritage monuments.
  • According to Mahavansh, when Great Mauryan king Ashoka after the heinous Kalinga war he came to this place for Moksha and built the stupa in Sanchi.
  • In the Mauryan era, Sanchi was known as Vedisgiri and Chetyagiri.
