It is one of the biggest rivers in India. It rises in the Gangotri mountains in the Himalayas. At Haridwar, it leaves the mountains and enters the plains. After flowing through Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, it flows into the Bay of Bengal.
