Best answer

Balancing of Oxidation-Reduction reactions using oxidation number method-

(i) Write the skeleton equation representing the chemical change.

(ii) Indicate the oxidation number of atoms which undergo a change in oxidation number.

(iii) Pick up the oxidant and reductant.

(iv) Find out increase and decrease in oxidation numbers per molecule of the reductant and oxidant respectively.

(v) Select coefficients for the reductant and oxidant such that the total increase in O.N. equals to the total decrease in O.N.

(vi) Balance the equation by inspection without changing the above coefficients.
