We can understand the necessity of political parties by for following reasons:
- Political parties are easily one of the most visible institutions in a democracy.
- For most of the ordinary citizens, democracy is equivalent to political parties.
- Most people tend to be very critical of political parties. They tend to blame parties for all that is wrong with our democracy and our political life.
- Parties have become identified with social and political divisions.
A political party has three components:
(i) The Leaders: Individuals responsible for crafting the party's policies and initiatives and selecting candidates to run in elections
(ii) The Active Members: Refers to individuals engaged in various party committees and actively taking part in their undertakings.
(iii) The Followers: People who adhere to the party's ideology and show their support by voting for the party during elections.
