A reflecting surface is represented by the equation x2 +y2 = a2. A ray travelling in negative x direction is directed towards positive y direction after refraction from the surface at point P. Then the coordinates of point P are

(a) (0.8a, 0.6a)

(b) (0.6a, 0.8a)

(c) [(a/√2), (a/√2)]

(d) none

(e) [(a/2), (a/2)]

Best answer

X = a/√2, y = a/√2

x = a cos 45º ⇒ a/√2 = x

y = a cos 45º ⇒ a/√2 = y

Hence coordinates [(a/√2), (a/√2)]
