Find the mean deviation from the mean of the following discrete data : 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 4, 12, 6.

The A.M. of the given data

The absolute values of the deviations are

|6 – 10|, |7 – 10|, |10 – 10|, |12 – 10|, |13 – 10|, |4 – 10|, |12 10|, |16 – 10|

= 4, 3, 0, 2, 3, 6, 2, 6

∴ The mean deviation from the mean

= 1/8(4 + 3 + 0 + 2 + 3 + 6 + 2 + 6)

= 26/8 = 3.25
