Given sin θ = – 1/3 < 0 

The sine function negative in 3rd and 4th quadrants, but 'θ' does not lie in Q3 

∴ θ lies is Q4

We know sin2 θ + cos2 θ =1

Since 'θ' lies in Q4

∴ cos θ = 2√2/3
