Electron deficient compounds : Electron deficient compounds are those in which the octet of all the atom's is not complete. (donot have 8 electrons in outer shell). 

"BF3 is a Lewis Acid"

Explanation

→ The substance which accepts electron pair and forms dative bond is called Lewis acid.

→ Generally Electron deficient compounds acts as Lewis acids.

→ BF3 is an Electron deficient compound. It has only six electrons. So it has the tendency to accept electron pair and forms dative bond, so it is a Lewis acid.
