Glycogen is a polymer of α -D -glucose. The carbohydrates are stored in animal body as glycogen. Starch is also a polymer of α -D -glucose and consist of two components amylose and amylopectin. Amylose is linear chain polymer of α -D –glucose. Both glycogen and amylopectin are branched chain polymer of α -D -glucose but glycogen is more highly branched than amylopectin. Strarch is the main storage polysaccharide of plants.

Starch is a polymer of α -D -glucose whereas cellulose is a polymer β –D–glucose
