Jhunjhunu First Smoke-Free District in Rajasthan

Jhunjhunu on Thursday earned the distinction of being the first smoke-free district in the state on “World No Tobacco Day”. Now, if any person is caught smoking at public places in Jhunjhunu, he or she would be challenged. The public places include railway stations, bus stands, banks, government offices, schools, colleges and other public and tourist places. The district administration has marked certain places where a person can smoke. A source said that as per the Control of Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, every district should be declared smoke-free and the districts which are not being declared smoke-free are violating the Act.

गुरुवार को विश्व तम्बाकू निषेध दिवस पर झुंझुनू ने राज्य के प्रथम smoke-free जिला होने की श्रेष्ठता की उपाधि पा ली है। अब यदि झुंझुनू में कोई भी व्यक्ति सार्वजनिक जगहों पर धूम्रपान करते हुए पाया जाता है तो उसका चालान किया जायेगा। सार्वजनिक स्थान के अन्तर्गत रेलवे स्टेशन, बस स्टैण्ड, बैंक, सरकारी कार्यालय, विद्यालय, महाविद्यालय तथा दूसरे सार्वजनिक और पर्यटक स्थल आते हैं। जिला प्रशासन ने कुछ जगहों को धूम्रपान कर सकने के लिए चिन्हित किया है। प्राप्त जानकारी के मुताबिक Control of Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 के अनुसार प्रत्येक जिला smoke free घोषित होना चाहिए तथा जो जिले smoke-free घोषित नहीं हो रहे हैं, वे इस नियम का उल्लंघन कर रहे हैं।
